2012 Jane Madison Pinot Noir - 4 Barrel "Reserve" Cuvee
Sta. Rita Hills
13.8% alc, pH 3.48, 0.631 TA; Clones 667, 828, 777, 115
50% aged 26 months in New Seguin Moreau barrels and 50% aged in neutral oak
For this vintage, we used grapes from 3 separate vineyards all in the Santa Rita Hills. Bentrock, a steep hillside site whose terroir provides the structural backbone; Radian, a well-balanced plot; and La Encantada which produces an elegant and delicate wine with beautiful aromas.
This combination of terroir allows for a beautifully structured wine of translucent red-violet color with a light rim, subtle, yet bright red forest berries, red currant and crushed thyme on the nose and continuing into the palate. Hints of fresh wild herbs, and delicate bark with a zippy acid. The finish is gorgeously floral with velvety tannins lingering on the palate. This wine has continued aging potential.
